laciajames1219,You are correct. The limiting values of Lu and LL should have both been 20' and not 25' as I had inadvertently shown. This error was a 'carryover' from the 2005 version spreadsheet workbook. Figure 9 in the ASCE 7-05 Code had shown the values of 25' for those 2 variables, but those values were revised to 20' in Figure 9 of the ASCE 7-10 Code. When I created the spreadsheet workbook to update from the 2005 Code to the 2010 Code, I obviously missed that. I have updated the ASCE710S.xls spreadsheet workbook to reflect these corrections. I will submit the updated spreadsheet workbook to John so that he can post it on his website. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.Alex

The minimum value for Lu & LL in computing for the drift heights is 20' in ASCE 7-10.

Thank you for taking the trouble to upload your calculation. On this occasion we have decided not to publish the calculation as it is password protected which is counter to our upload rule '10. Also we noticed some #NAME errors
Would you consider reviewing you calculation to fix these issues?

I see that you have correctly identified the author of this calculation, Dr. Mahmoud El-Kateb. This is clearly an extensive spreadsheet covering many topics. Rule 9 for uploads states '9. NO PLAGIARISM - Make sure that you own the calculation. We never want to be accused of plagiarism so you must have the right to give us your calculation. If you have been inspired by other authors please give credit where credit is due.' Can you provide any assurances that you have the permission of the author to upload to this site?

Aaron thanks for this but I am struggling to understand how I drive the calculation and exactly what it is doing. I wonder if you could add a little more detail so that I can complete my review of the calculation.

Most of our calculations are working xls or xlsx files and not necessarily templates. The original copy is held here so if you play with a calculation and mess it up you can always download the original from here.

'r' is the position of the centre of gravity of all parts of the vehicle minus the excavator arm itself (chassis, cab, outriggers, wheel and front bucket). None of these parts will move when the boom is fully retracted so the position of 'r' remains unchanged as the geometry of the excavator arm changes. I hope this helps.

I came back after 4 years and I'm trying to use the excelcalcs for embed plates anchor bolts, using this of a column, I thought I can use this one even though is for a beam, I juse won't have axial load. Is that O.K.?

Most spreadsheet are filled out with values. This shows that the calculation has been used and is working with representative values. In this respect it is a working copy as it is an xlsx file and not a template file with an xltx extension. Is there something specific you are worried about. If so can you direct us to the area of concern. The file author will receives a copy of all comments raised here and generally they will answer questions if they are able to do so.

Just downloaded the spreadsheet and it seems to have been filled out and commented.
I am wondering if the version I downloaded is not a template anymore but a working copy of some kind.
The spreadsheet seems to have been tampered with.

ExcelCalcs is a club whose members share an interest in making calculations with MS Excel. Members submit calculations which are reviewed by us and published if we think they will be of use to our community. We charge members an annual subscription fee for access to all calculations on the site. Alternatively we award subscriptions in return for contributions to the site. The subscription charge covers site administration, site development and hosting costs. We offer 50% discounts to academic members and free membership to site contributors. We show calculation previews to show what each calculation contains but we do not sent out calculations for trial purposes.

There is a problem in Section G for Girder Selection. When selecting the Girder, plate and or Channel, when you select the GIRDER WITH CHANNEL or RESET buttons an error message comes up stating 'Cannot run macro 'OVERHEAD+TRAVELLING+CRANE+DESIGN+(BS+5950).xlsm'Button14_Click'. The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled.
Thus unable to reset the runway geometry for the configuration entered and thus cannot proceed beyond this point for the analysis. Can you advise or rectify.
