Structural
loads are typically one, or a combination, of the following:
• External forces.
• Surface loads (e.g. pressure)
• Body forces (gravity, acceleration, temperature).
Structural analysis is the most common application of the FE
method. It determines stress, strain and deformation of a component or assembly
subject to a range of load conditions. Its a useful tool
for ensuring that expensive failures are avoided at the design stage
or understanding reasons for failure in service.
The substantial non-linear capabilities of ANSYS® also enable more
complex simulations to be undertaken, including: Large deflection
Stress stiffening Large strain These features combined with extensive
material property functions and state-of-the-art surface contact
modelling, mean that complex assemblies can be cost-effectively
analysed.
